Quality illustration and good graphic design make all the difference to a report, booklet, brochure or website. Examples on this page give an idea of the sort of work we can do.

Diagrams, charts and graphs, and maps (real and imaginary)

Diagrams are aids to understanding. They are good at visually summarising selected aspects of a complex idea, system, or pattern of data by emphasising its critical elements and omitting its less critical elements. We are used to interpreting ideas visually and will want to talk through what you have in mind to ensure that the concepts are interpreted in the clearest light and are appropriate to the audience.

While standard Excel charts and graphs are fine for drafts, they often look amateurish in published reports. We use our graphic design skills to produce far higher quality graphics suitable for publication and for use in presentations.

Likewise, we produce a wide variety of maps, including large gaming maps for workshops and more realistic maps to illustrate reports.

Logos and branding

Logos can be used to brand projects as well as organisations. To develop a brand which is appropriate to you and to your audience, we start by exploring your ideas and what you want to convey about your project or organisation. A workshop with your staff and stakeholders is a good way to draw these out.

We'll then discuss some intial ideas and work up samples for you to choose between. You'll probably want to think about the range of other corporate literature and materials you might need and talk to us about how we might help you here too.

Posters

We have lots of experience in translating the abstract into visual form. We'll ask lots of questions: about what you want to say and who to, the graphic 'feel' you envisage, what photos or illustrations will be appropriate, and so on. We normally try to design posters that also work well reduced in size or can readily be adapted to use as leaflets or as illustrations in a publication.

Photographs

Photographs speak volumes. Because photographs usually pack so much quickly accessible content, they can convey a vast range of messages, feelings, moods and ideas. Of course rich content can easily deliver connotations that are not part of the intended message and it is part of our job to help you identify these too.

We can take photos ourselves or buy them from commercial image libraries. The examples below were taken by our own in-house photographer, Jim Batty.
