Good practice case studies This report, which includes examples of innovative developments, looks at future policies for governance and public engagement in response to the forces operating on local government.
OPM helps organisations to think strategically about the future. Our techniques include scenarios, visioning, forces and drivers analysis and horizon scanning. We have used these in a large range of projects – from energy policy to dental health.

Public Service Futures
We all know how quickly the world around us is changing. Global, national, regional and local trends will define the future context in which UK public services must operate, but where are these trends taking us? This is the focus for our newest project which is exciting interest across the UK. Will you join us?
We are working with an impressive group of visionary thinkers from across the public, private and third sectors to develop a compelling and wide-ranging analysis of what the future might hold for public services. The aim of the Public Service Futures project is not to predict, but to create a 'virtual reality' through dialogue, debate and deliberation: drawing on many varied perspectives on different topics and issues. This summer we will be launching an interactive online forum based around the contributions we have received, and publishing the first in a series of thematic reports.
We've done this before. In 1995 we developed two strategic scenarios for the future of public services in 2007.
Join the Public Service Futures Network
No-one can say with any degree of certainty what the future will hold for public services. But by drawing upon the knowledge and foresight of people like yourself we can help public service managers to navigate a steady course: maximising the opportunities and meeting the challenges that arise. If you would like to join our Public Service Futures Network, please email Emma Norris. Joining the Network will give you access to the online forum and the insights of our visionary thinkers and leading opinion formers, and the chance to participate in an exciting programme of events.
