Privacy and copyright

This page describes the main parts of OPM’s policy on website visitors’ privacy and the collection of information, and our general copyright policy.

This policy

The privacy policy described below is designed to tell you how this site collects, uses, and discloses any information you may provide us via the site. By using this site, you acknowledge that you have reviewed, and agree to, the terms of this privacy policy and the terms of use. If you do not agree to this privacy policy and the terms of use, do not use this site.

We comply with the Data Protection Act.

Links to other sites

This privacy policy applies only to this site. Although we include links to other websites, those websites are not covered by this privacy policy. We do not take any responsibility for information that another site to which we have directed you to may collect about you. If you have any concerns, you should check that site’s policy too.

Making information available to other organisations

We do not sell or give away to other organisations or individuals any information we collect in the course of our work. We will not pass on your details without first asking (and getting) your permission.

If you register on one of our programmes, request our newsletter, apply for a job or respond in other ways to our website, we may hold personal details in a database on our server and/or that of our website hosting company. We will not use your details for any other purpose than that we have told you about, and we have the assurance of the hosting company that they will not do so either. We have security measures in place to protect against intrusions, viruses and so on. We urge you to make sure that your own computer or computer network has up-to-date security.

If you receive an unsolicited email from us, your details will have come either from a previous occasion when we have worked together (for instance, if you are on our list of clients, or have been involved in one of our projects) or because your organisation has given your details to us in the course of a project on which we are working with them. If you are unhappy with us having your details, let us know by email or phone.

Electronic surveys

If you respond to a general questionnaire on our website, we may ask you to provide personal details. If we wish to publish the results of a questionnaire, we will not include your personal details unless we first seek and get your permission to do so. Our normal practice is to ‘anonymise’ survey responses, or aggregate the data, so that people cannot be identified.

We sometimes use a website to collect information as part of projects we are working on for our clients. For instance, we may ask people to participate in ‘360-degree feedback’ reporting. For this, we use our other website – www.opmsurveys.co.uk – which is also held on a secure server. If we send you a link to such a questionnaire we will tell you what the project is and why we are asking you to respond. We will normally provide a code number that you can use instead of providing personal details: this allows us to check that the right people have responded to the right questionnaires. If we do ask for your details, we will not use them for any other purpose than the one we have specified.

Copyright

We protect our own copyright and, as a matter of policy, will not knowingly infringe that of other people. This applies to all our work: our website, our programme materials, our work for clients, and so on. It is a difficult policy to police, especially given the ready access to information that the Internet affords and the difficulty of checking all the materials that our members use day to day. But we will always do our best to prevent infringement happening.

If you believe we may be using materials that rightly belong to you, and we have not entered an agreement with you or credited you correctly, please email Leila Carlyle. We will take steps to rectify the situation.

We want to ensure that all images used on our site have been obtained legally and that the photographer has been credited appropriately. If you recognise an image as your own, and would like to be credited, or if you recognise an image as yours but would like it removed from the site, please email Leila Carlyle
